Shake Shack vs Bleecker Burger
Ultimate burger battle on Victoria street.
The giant and famous Shake Shack, coming from the US, and the small simple Bleecker Burger are facing each other on the same street.
The first is one of the most famous burger chains worldwide; many foodies who have been in New York swear by it for more than a couple of reasons. Its menu is not long and its famous for its burgers with its own trademark sauce, as well as milkshakes. On Victoria street it certainly catches your eye with its colourful signs, huge banners, flamboyancy and highly marketable fast food arrangement.
The second one is plain, small, far from eye catching, with dark decor, similar to those little neighbourhood, squirmy food shops. The menu is very small and simple. It features only few burgers, fries and drinks.
I decided to try both and see which burger is the best! I was first immersed to try Shake Shack, as I remembered its yumminess from my days in the US. However, a lot of people claim that Bleecker Burger IS one of the best in London.
So what's the verdict from a burger lover?
First, Shake Shack.
I must say I was fairly disappointed. The burger had a fast food, plastic taste, not that it was that bad, but I honestly expected more. Was it that bad when I was eating it in NY? Maybe not... Maybe I don't remember well... Maybe as it is a franchise it didn't manage to keep the same quality.. Maybe...
The sauce was really tasty; the fries however not. They had that taste of pre-made frozen potatoes.
And now let's talk about Bleecker.
I tried here again the cheeseburger and the "angry fries"; fries with a sauce mix of blue cheese and hot sauce. In this case I opted in for a coffee shake, less calories (I hoped) than the ones in Shake Shack with the delicious ice cream.
The burger was fantastic. I loved the bun! Even though it didn't had that complete homemade feeling, it was still delicious. The fries were also great (the sweet potato ones looked tasty too, gosh I wanted those as well!), but a bit heavy with the two sauces. The shake was refreshing and not too heavy either, like the ones you usually get in burger places.
I liked the packaging, very old fashioned. The decor wasn't too much my style, a bit too dark, especially in the middle of the day.
And now to the winner!
As you have probably guessed... the award goes to... *drumroll*
Bleecker burger!
