Verbier, all about skiing
One of the best Swiss ski resorts, fun and sporty, while elegant. You come here for the sport and the good food, not the bling bling. You find here high net worth individuals with a low profile and trendy, young eager skiers and snowboarders.
It’s is one of the biggest, if not the biggest resort, in Switzerland since it covers and connects the 4 Vallees (4 Valleys) area-Verbier, Thyon, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Bruson and La Tzoumaz.
Restaurants/cafes:
Milk Bar: for amazing hot chocolate and crepes in a contemporary cozy décor with young crowd. Great for kids too.
Le Caveau: traditional Swiss, go for fondue or raclette, that’s their strengths.
La Grange: traditional Swiss, either lunch or dinner, one of the best in Verbier to try.
Le Grenier, in Chalet d ‘Adrien: another traditional Swiss, with traditional décor, one of the best in town and with a large selection of dishes; amazing meat dishes as well. We tried and suggest selection of local cheeses from a cheese “window” and waffles for dessert.
The restaurant in La Cordée des Alpes: modern and elegant, cozy, great atmosphere, modern French/Swiss cuisine, another one of the best.
Le Rouge: modern and trendy, international cuisine, great for dinner and fun with drinks and some dancing after.
Chez Martin: a mix of pizza, pasta and local dishes, it’s a great local and casual spot for families or a more casual and cheap meal, but still with amazing tastes.
The restaurant of the Vieux Verbier hotel: again a bit traditional for lunch or dinner, near Medran, the main spot to take the tele-cabin for the slopes.
Le Dahu: restaurant on the ski pistes for lunch, amazing views from high top, great and quick service, and undoubtedly the best restaurant on the pistes; the food is local and amazing, but either wait long time in the queues, if you go between 12-2.30pm, or try to book early; non-skiers can reach the restaurant by changing 2 tele-cabins, located near La Chaux.
Other options on the pistes are Le Carrefour (closer to the blue and learning pistes), Le Mouton Noir, the igloo near Mont Fort (self-service), but other great options available, as most places you eat in the area are very good.
Le Farinet: après-ski bar/club; mostly teens to late 20s.
Hotels: you can rent great chalets or apartments in Verbier, but if you want the top hotels look for Chalet d’Adrien (though a bit further from the center to walk) or La Cordee des Alpes (modern and cozy, has apartments as well, 5-10m walk to center). For cheaper options, there are other great options all around the center.
There is a selection of pubs and bars. Also, frequent and well-organized buses go all around the village and bases of the slopes. Even though you can drive around, it’s easier to explore walking or using the bus, as on busy periods there is traffic and is hard to park; anyways it’s easy to walk, although a bit uphill sometimes.
Tip: La Chaumiere, under the Milk Bar, has the best selection of cheeses to purchase, also wines and charcuterie. For chocolate or a chocolate break find shop/café La Galerie du Chocolat-Chocolaterie de Verbier.
